The New Year looked good, there was a sense of satisfaction when I put down the camera as Fat Santa left the room. After Christmas, full of January plans I found the camera was dead, looking around 4.6K's are dying, and at 5 years old stay dead. Or worse become unreliable. Even worse than a 5 grand camera dying is the replacement 6K pro also can die on set.
Naturally like any sane man I said no BM cameras for me, until you look at cinema cameras under 3K. A contender the Panasonic Box camera, I hear it can shoot in BRAW, but also it's colour science isn't a match to the next step up in their range, so as a B camera not so attractive.
A BM 6K pro as a B cam to an eventual Cannon or something seemed the way to go. Also all the lenses cards and even V-lock from the BM 4.6 K can rig up to the BMPC6KPro or what ever it's called. Any way it will be here with the eye piece on Monday well below market price thanks to SLR Hut, again.
That's it really, caution and solutions, or alternatives. BM cameras can die, and I bought another, that makes 7 or 8 K on camera bodies in 5 years, depending where it came from. Ouch, lets hope it lasts at least another 5, that way cameras only cost about 120 per month to own.
Ney years reality BM cameras can die, and even if they don't tech advances a lot in 5 years.
