So today was about making two videos, 2 versions of my latest video. A 4K one (Ultra HD) and a HD. SO naturally I spent some time rendering and encoding. Rendering 4K and HD from the time line and re-encoding through 'Handbrake' to get the best quality with no blocking and keeping the beautiful grain feeling from my Ursa Pro. Enevitably to come under the threshold of 100 MB. The encoding of the 4K was more compressed than the HD but both were quality experiences, and that what we sell.

Until I looked at the upload, I'd say roughly the reencoding was similar to 'You-Tube' basically destroying any attempt at keeping quality in detail areas and at the same time blocking up skin tones to a horrible level.

More modern thinking sites that turn over millions of dollars and where we sell don't re-encode the video. So if a file limit upload is 4GB you encode to that limit.

You see really there are two ways to make money from clips, the most successful way monetary wise is to bang them out 5 a week if you can, minted in no time. After time you might sit back and say right quality over quantity. A quality video sells better over a longer period of time, so its worth more.

Right so here's just a quick note on AF please remove the re-encodeing let us decide on the quality/file size limit, just like in the real world. I want to show what real quality is and attract more creatives here, build something for this community. There is no print equilivalnt of a video it must been seen as the producer intends. ...Also can we have a video producers forum so I don't have to post in a photography one.

Finally I would love 80% of my sales, truly I'd make good use of that, but 100 MB at HD gets you about, well lets say a pee movie. At 4K good compression about 4seconds. So I happily paid £10 to have unlimited uploads, how much more does it cost to have streaming content limited to 2 GB. ManyVids is 4GB Clips4Sale is 8gb All of which effect duration and encoding so ultimately quality.

Finally on a positive note, well its all good really. A video has a price, it sells as default on the big sites at $1 per min, after commission imagine that as £0.50. So you sell at that very simple formula where a 20 min video earns £10. sell it to 20 people as a poor average per year the thing is worth £100. It really is that simple to make money from clips, but the clip essentially has to be the one produced by the creator.
